The City of Smithville is collecting scrap metal through September, but on June 9 we will have another open "Drive Day" from 10AM to 2PM. Volunteers from Fort Hood will be on hand through Soldiers' Angels to help pick up scrap from around town and to help folks unload the scrap they bring to the site. Come on out to Eagleston and 2nd with your tin, brass, copper, iron, and any other metal. All proceeds will go towards the Smithville Texas Veterans Memorial Park. Come out on Saturday to honor our military heroes. Activities in the morning on Main Street and all day long at Riverbend Park, including bed races, a parade, kickball and volleyball tournaments, washers and horseshoes, a live auction, live music, and much more! Cory Morrow headlines the show. Tickets for the musical acts are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate after 4PM: active military in uniform or with ID get in free; children 10 and under are free. Join us on May 19th for a Celebration to benefit the Smithville Texas Veterans Memorial Park. Activities include bed races and a parade on Main Street and day-long activities at Riverbend Park. Sign up for kickball, volleyball, washers and horseshoes tournaments, BBQ Cookoff (form and rules). Come see the military static display and arts/crafts, and kids activities. The Park will be open to the public during the day for free. After 4PM, people staying for the music will need to buy tickets to stay -- pre-purchase your ticket for $20 (tickets will be $25 at the gate after 4PM). Children 10 and under free. Active Military can get in free with ID.

The Smithville Community Clinic will begin to offer free basic medical services for uninsured persons. It will be necessary to register at the Clinic. The Clinic will be open on Saturdays, with pre-registration beginning at 8AM. The doctor will see registered patients from 10AM to 2PM. For more information, contact K-Lee Starland: 512 632-8900.
