In the next few days, you should receive the 10-question U.S. Census form. It is extremely important to Smithville that you fill out the form and return it on or before April 15th -- every person counted in Smithville means about $10,500 in public services and grant funds. If you have already filled in the "long form" sent last month, THANK YOU for your patience and dedication to our town. This is NOT the same as the 10-question short form, which you also need to fill out and return -- and we thank you again for taking the time to do the second form. If you have any questions about the form or need help to fill it out, two locations are now open to help. Starting February 26 through April 9th, local resident Donna Moss will be available at City Hall from 9AM to Noon and at the Chamber of Commerce from 1PM to 4PM. She will be able to help you if you have any questions about the form, about why it's important to Smithville, and will be able to help you fill it out if you are having any difficulties. She will also be able to help people who do not read English or who speak a language other than English. A person at the Census who speaks other languages -- Spanish, Chinese, Czech, German, Korean, or any of over 100 other languages -- is just a phone call away. If you have a child in school in Smithville, please take our survey to let us know about how you feel about allowing students in your care to walk or bike to school. This is required through the grant we received for Safe Routes to School, and your answers will help us measure how well the program is working. Thank you for your participation in this important survey!

Please check out our local historian David Herrington's website about Smithville History. He and Carol Snyder literally wrote the book ("Images of America: Smithville") so he knows what he's talking about!
