Memorial Weekend VERY Active in Smithville

Staying in town for Memorial Weekend? Don't worry, you won't be bored! Four days of Memorial Weekend activities are slated to keep you and the kids entertained in Smithville! Friday: night disc golf. Saturday 8AM to Midnight: picnic in the park with kickball, volleyball, horseshoes and washers tournaments, a bounce house, a BBQ cook-off, and terrific music! Lunch ($10 a plate) provided from 11AM-2PM by the Knights of Columbus (meal tickets available for sale at City Hall and other locations in town), and many area non-profits will sell other stuff. Sunday 2-4PM: Memorial Services and sing-along at the Recreation Center. Monday 11AM: VFW Memorial Day Ceremony and Lunch. General admission to all the events are FREE!

We made KVUE News!

KVUE reporter Shelton Green interviewed Mayor Mark Bunte for their newscast; it played on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, and is up online at the KVUE website. While they focused on the five most recently fallen, the Memorial Park will pay tribute to anyone who has worn a uniform with dignity and pride at any time in our history since the Texas War for Independence.

May 19 Celebration: Cory Morrow is headlining!

Join us on May 19th for a Celebration to benefit the Smithville Texas Veterans Memorial Park. Activities include bed races and a parade on Main Street and day-long activities at Riverbend Park. Sign up for kickball, volleyball, washers and horseshoes tournaments, BBQ Cookoff (form and rules). Come see the military static display and arts/crafts, and kids activities. The Park will be open to the public during the day for free. After 4PM, people staying for the music will need to buy tickets to stay -- pre-purchase your ticket for $20 (tickets will be $25 at the gate after 4PM). Children 10 and under free. Active Military can get in free with ID.

REFORESTATION ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR WILDFIRE-DAMAGED LANDS

If you own land in the areas affected by the September 4th 2011 wildfires, assistance may be available for you to help reforest the area. See this message from the Texas Forest Service about applications for assistance from the Farm Service Agency.

Community Clinic Opens its Doors: April 14

The Smithville Community Clinic will begin to offer free basic medical services for uninsured persons. It will be necessary to register at the Clinic. The Clinic will be open on Saturdays, with pre-registration beginning at 8AM. The doctor will see registered patients from 10AM to 2PM. For more information, contact K-Lee Starland: 512 632-8900.
