The Smithville Community Gardens is grateful for all the volunteer hours and everyone who generously donated table and ticket sponsorships, raffle items, desserts and all the other things that were necessary to make Saturday's dinner possible and fun. Thanks also to everyone who has bought a ticket and plans to attend or bought a raffle ticket -- and good luck to you! Our appreciation for this community runs deep.
We hope you will join us for the dinner on Saturday, September 11 at 6:30PM. Dinner tickets are $25 each, Catering by Chabot will serve a delicious meal, with desserts generously donated by other local companies and SCG members. You can also buy raffle tickets to go towards ten amazing packages including the Grand Prize of a stay at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort, necklaces by Joanna Morgan, a stunning yellow dress by Patricia Wolf, and many baskets of goodies from the River Valley Farmers' Market, the Sugar Shack, and our own SCG members among many other things. Raffle tickets are $5 each or $20 for five, and you don't need to be there to get your item.
School is starting and parents have a new routine. The Smithville Safe Routes to School Plan called to improve safety by making the three streets surrounding the Elementary and Junior High schools into one-way streets during school hours. On August 9, 2010, the City Council passed the ordinance that requires 9th Street and Wilkes to become one-way streets, like Bishop already is, during school hours.
Take our "One-Way Streets Poll" to let us know if you support changing the blocks of Wilkes and 9th Street adjacent to the Elementary/Jr. High Campus into one-way streets during school hours, linking them with Bishop, which is already a one-way street during school hours.
Here is an email from our Census Partnership Specialist about what is going on at Census these days... Congrats again Smithville -- at 77%, higher than the national and state average, our participation rate was something to be very proud of!
