I just voted on the 11 Propositions to Amend the Texas Constitution. I hope you will vote, too! Voter turnout in non-Presidential elections are notoriously dismal, but these issues are easily just as important and may have even more of an impact on our local area. We are in the early voting phase right now -- click on this blog to see the schedule and more information.Read more»
We held another public meeting for the Smithville Safe Routes to School Plan on Thursday, October 15 in the Recreation Center. We discussed the SSRTS Plan, which was submitted to the Texas Department of Transportation for their review on Sept. 30, the preliminary feedback from caregiver surveys, and next steps.Read more»
A survey will be sent to parents of children attending Brown Primary, Smithville Elementary, and Smithville Senior High schools this week -- estimated arrival date, October 8. We are interested in everyone's opinion, however -- whether you have children in these schools, or if you have children at all. If you do not receive a paper copy, please do not feel excluded from this survey effort. Please log on to the city's website for the Smithville's Safe Routes to School information and take the survey on line.Read more»

School is starting and parents have a new routine. The Smithville Safe Routes to School Plan called to improve safety by making the three streets surrounding the Elementary and Junior High schools into one-way streets during school hours. On August 9, 2010, the City Council passed the ordinance that requires 9th Street and Wilkes to become one-way streets, like Bishop already is, during school hours.
Take our "One-Way Streets Poll" to let us know if you support changing the blocks of Wilkes and 9th Street adjacent to the Elementary/Jr. High Campus into one-way streets during school hours, linking them with Bishop, which is already a one-way street during school hours.
Here is an email from our Census Partnership Specialist about what is going on at Census these days... Congrats again Smithville -- at 77%, higher than the national and state average, our participation rate was something to be very proud of!
