As many of you are already aware, we have received funds through the Safe Routes to School program to do several things to help encourage students (and the broader community) to bike, walk, skate, and otherwise use their feet first to get around town. While many students live a long way from school, even those students can benefit from these programs when they need to get to the Library or the Rec Center. Some of the upcoming events and activities include: * The Library's "Feet First" Program (October to May: register at the Library--more below) * Participation in the National Walk / Bike to School Day (October 6) * A fall Bicycle Rodeo (October 9) * A bike maintenance workshop (early December--watch for the date!) * A spring Bicycle Rodeo (watch for a March date) * A Crossing Guard Program (volunteers needed! Training will be provided) * A Safety Campaign aimed at both drivers and feet first-ers We need volunteers to help these activities run smoothly. Please contact Jill Strube or Judy Bergeron for more information and to sign up to volunteer. Look for more updates here, through the library, and through the schools. Thanks to everyone who has been working to make our kids safe and helping encourage them to get their excercise!
