Memorial Park Project

The city of Smithville and Mayor Mark Bunte announce a unique park project for the city that will combine a children’s water recreation area and a memorial space and monument to honor the fallen heroes of Bastrop County.

Mayor Bunte and Patti Patton Bader, founder of Soldier’s Angels, a non-profit organization that supports tens of thousands of American military personnel across the globe with care packages from home, developed the concept for the park after a conversation about the fallen heroes from Smithville and the Bastrop County area. The community has lost more soldiers, for its size, than any other during the recent fight for freedom.

The concept for a children’s area as part of the memorial came from families of the fallen who expressed the desire to have youthful energy and joy as part of a tribute to soldiers who fell in the fight for freedom.

The memorial park project quickly grew with the contributions of artists and volunteers willing to see the concept come to fruition. Support and funding is also coming from governmental, business and private organizations across the county. The cities of Bastrop and Elgin have pledged their support.

You can be part of the memorial through your donations and support.

Land is being secured, the monument is being designed and the splash park is on the drawing table for this memorial space that will draw visitors from across the country. Details and updates will be added to the website as they become available.

Please donate for this unique memorial space in memory of the fallen heroes who gave all for their country and the freedoms we hold dear. See the links below to donate through with your credit card.
