About Land Use

The second section of the Comprehensive Plan discusses land use. Although in 2007 Smithville had not experienced the explosive growth that had been occurring in the western part of Bastrop County, the Plan called for people to be aware of current land uses and to consider future desired and allowable land uses in order to guide future development. Understanding how we can use ordinances and zoning laws to encourage the “right” kind of growth to fit the community’s definition of a high quality of life is extremely important. Future development must be sited to the right location for the desired impacts and to reach maximum benefits for the community.
