Animal Control

Policies regarding animals and animal ordinances can be obtained at City Hall. Animals are required to be kept under control by way of leash, cord, chain (at least 10 feet in length) or fence at all times. Animals found to be wandering without supervision are either taken home or impounded for safety reasons.

Smithville has no animal shelter, therefore all animals that are impounded are taken to the Bastrop County animal shelter located at 589 Coolwater Dr. Bastrop TX, 78602 where they are dealt with according to county policy.

Citizens are encouraged to take found and abandoned animals directly to the shelter at:                     589 Coolwater drive, Bastrop, TX 78602                                                                                                                       Phone number:512-549-5160
