Part-Time General Clerk
The City is looking to hire a Part-Time Clerk. Duties include communicating effectively and courteously with customers in person, on the telephone, and in writing. Displays good decision-making abilities, and performs work efficiently and accurately. Must be friendly and pleasant with the public. Ability to work with department heads and other city employees. Must be able to operate independently with a minimum of supervision. Works well under pressure and follows directions. Maintains extensive record-keeping systems and files. The Clerk will answer telephone inquiries regarding utility accounts, work to resolve customer complaints, and balance the utility cash drawer. The Clerk will communicate with Utility Department regarding service problems and customer complaints, and process Work Orders. The Clerk will assist with customer services and answer telephones during periods of high volume (or staff shortages). The Clerk will help with permitting, setting up inspections, processing dump tickets, and working the General counter.

Performs routine repairs and maintenance in an assigned craft; assists, as directed, in more complex maintenance and repair of transmission, power generation, and facilities equipment, using power and hand tools as necessary. Participates in training sessions to gain greater knowledge of craft or trade by learning the procedures, tools, use, and equipment operations. Maintains tools. Equipment and facilities used in the performance of the job duties. Performs other duties of a related nature, as assigned. High School Diploma or GED, Texas Driver’s License, work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather. Night Time Dispatcher
The Smithville Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time Night Time Dispatcher. Starting pay is $16.80 an hour. We currently have an opening for night shift. 6p till 6a, paid training and paid holidays, including a night shift pay differential of an extra $1 per hour. Total is $17.80 dollars an hour for the overnight shift only. Rotating weekends off, full city benefits. Experience preferred, but will train. Must be able to pass a drug screen, Background check, and a psych evaluation. Applications can be picked up at the PD Monday – Friday from 8a-5p or below. Police Officer: The City of Smithville is currently seeking applications for Police Officer. Applicants must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State Drivers’ License without a record of suspension or revocation in any state; ability to meet the Department’s physical standards. Position works on assigned shifts using own judgment in deciding course of action; is expected to handle difficult and emergency situations while patrolling the city streets, parks, commercial and residential areas.
